The Job of a Congressperson

Paper #2: The Job of a Congressperson
Now that you know who your US House member is, it’s time to look at the day-to-day work of a federal legislator. Specifically, I want you do discover and discuss the following (use your congressperson’s website as a starting point):
On what committees does your House member serve? Do they have any leadership position (e.g., chair or co-chair of any committees or subcommittees, or in general House leadership?)
What are the responsibilities of those committees?
What legislation has your House member introduced, if any (if they haven’t authored any legislation, are they a co-sponsor for any bills?). What policy areas does your Congressperson tend to concentrate on the most? Provide examples. Focus on bills, not resolutions.
What kind of case work/constituent service does your congressperson provide? See their websites for “services” or “constituent services,” and provide examples. Which do you think are most important for constituents?
All papers must be at least 2-3 double-spaced pages in length and must include an introduction (telling the reader the purpose of the paper) and a conclusion. Papers must include citations to all sources used (please consult the Academic Integrity tutorial for how to properly cite sources). Please submit papers in the proper formats – and note that PAGES documents do not work on Blackboard!
