Go to the FBI’s Web site, www.fbi.gov/ucr, and locate data on the statutory and constitutional provisions relating to the purchase, ownership and use of firearms for the states. Locate your state and answer the following questions in an essay format (i.e. do not just write each question and then respond to it).
o Does your state have any exemptions to the NICS background check requirements?
o Is there a state waiting period? If so, for handguns, long guns, or both?
o Is a license or permit to purchase required?
o Is registration required?
o Is a record of firearms sales sent to police?
o Are certain firearms prohibited?
o What are the details of your state’s concealed carry laws?
o Is there a hunter protection law? What about a range protection law? What do these mean?
o Does your state have a firearm industry lawsuit preemption?
Requirements
Write a five (5) page minimum, DOUBLE SPACED, 12-FONT TIMES ROMAN paper with references and sources cited. The paper must discuss each step of the sections in detail. This project will be a minimum of five (5) pages for the entire paper, not five (5) pages for each step.
Your cover sheet, abstract, and your source citing/references are NOT included in the five page minimum.
Your grade will depend upon the presentation of your analysis and research, the quality of the work presented, including whether you give a detailed presentation or a vague overview, whether you address all parts of the question asked, and how you support your discussion.
Your grade also will take into consideration your citing of a variety of sources/use of references and whether you met the mandatory minimum page requirement.
