Over the last two years, I have purchased 2 bikes online and had them delivered, had a wheelset, tires, parts, and hundreds of articles of clothing all delivered through online shopping. In short, I don’t shop in person anymore if I can help it. Even the local experience of going to Walmart has been simplified for my wife and I as we can either pre-purchase items and have them ready for pickup onsite – or at worst – keep them in the shopping cart on our devices so that we don’t forget what we were purchasing. However, when I need something that requires me to go out of town, I realize I look for sales, purchase options, and even plan how that will happen differently.
Another avenue that I experience, along with my family, is the purchase of movies in digital (non-DVD) formats, game purchases, and even in-game purchase that all would have felt worthless two or even three years ago. Now that is the norm. Movie theaters are sharing release dates on new movies with streaming services, and even the car-buying experience is now all done through chatbox and websites, think Carvana.
How do you see this sphere of our digital society? What do you experience? What has changed with digital tools and what has stayed the same? Have you had to gain new literacy skills to best navigate this environment?
This assignment should be approximately 2-5 pages in length, double-spaced, Times New Roman. I would like references sourced in either MLA or APA.
