Writing Assignment: Identify an interpretive problem pertaining to “human relationships” in this reading
Thesis: Begin with something that is unclear about the relationship(s) in the text and then come up with an arguable thesis
Motive: State the clarification problem in the short story
Evidence and Analysis: Use close reading to show multiple interpretations of the short story and what –tone, narrator, diction, dialogue, setting, plot- you will use to support your thesis. For example, use any of the above to open the short story up for a particular or another reading. Ask yourself, how is/are the relationships presented? What words, images, scenes etc. made you come to this conclusion? Based on the short story, what made you interpret the relationship this way?
