Society often blames victims of fraud for their own victimization and does not view them as “real” victims. After Bernard Madoff’s Ponzi scheme was exposed, many people blamed the victims for being greedy and gullible and for failing to investigate prior to investing with Madoff. Similarly, during the recent trial of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, investors were blamed for not doing sufficient due diligence before investing millions of dollars in the company. Victims of online frauds such as phishing or advance fee frauds also are often blamed for their own victimization. Based on your knowledge of victim blaming, write an essay that answers all of the following questions:
Why do you think it is so common to blame fraud victims for their own victimization?
Do you agree at all or in part with this viewpoint?
Why or why not? Explain and support your opinion regarding holding victims of fraud responsible
You must use at least two outside credible sources in your essay.
