This book review is intended to develop a wider understanding for the institutions and actors responsible for influencing the experiences of immigration and asylum-seeking in Canada.
This assignment will be 6 pages in length. It will be written in Times New Roman size 12 font and double-spaced. It will require references using the APA citation guide Seventh Edition.
Page 1 will provide an introduction and short summary of the book – Who is the author of the book (what is their lived experience) and how would you succinctly summarize the book?
Page 2 and 3 will clearly identify the author’s thesis and examine the supporting evidence used to support the thesis – How effectively has the author argued their thesis and provided supporting evidence to advance their overall argument?
Page 4 will explore the assumptions of the author and how that informs their argument – For instance, what is the author’s position on migration and how does that relate to the rights of migrant families?
Page 5 will offer a recommendation for the book – Who should read this book and why would it be useful to understanding newcomer families in Canada?
Page 6 will indicate your overall opinion of the book – What did you expect to learn from the book and were your expectations met? Why or why not?
In composing the book review, be sure to use supporting evidence from the book for each question that is completed. As you read over your responses, strike an important balance between formulating an argument/answer, providing supporting evidence, and elaborating on your response with analysis.
