Write a discussion paper on how diabetes is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease. Many end stage CKD patients have dialysis and sometimes need blood transfusions. How accurate are HGBA1c on these patients? How accurate are the continuous blood glucose monitors such as Freestyle Libre. Also, there is blood collection tubes supply shortages. Elimination of the hbgA1c testing for diabetic every 2-3 months would save tubes. It would be nice to be able to import the data from the individual continuous blood glucose monitor into the electronic medical record.
What would be the benefits??? Continuous BGM is helpful in detecting both hypoglycemia and hypergycemia on a daily basis. It would be helpful for patients to see trends in their blood glucose numbers and their daily habits/diet in real time. Patient can make better choices with out having to wait for the hgba1c results.
Hbga1c is not reliable in patients with anemia, hemoglobinopathies and iron defient anemias. Many diabetics take metformin. This drug can inhibit absorption of nutrients that are needed for RBC production (B12 and Iron)
I would like the references to be no older than 5 years.
I have attached a proposal assignment. I have also attached a few research articles.
