1. Your first assignment is to pick a current health policy and analyze it using the CDC guide for health policy analysis linked above. Very briefly address each aspect of the health policy analysis model (those that apply/those that you can address). You will not be able to accomplish a complete analysis, but do what you can. However, your analysis should not be more than a couple of pages. Post this analysis to canvas.

2. Your next assignment is to write a letter to your member of congress, either at the city, state or federal level advocating for or against the health policy issue you identified above. Reflect back on the questions you answered last week when you identified and discussed a critical health policy issue. The will help you to craft your letter to your congressperson.

Example letter to Representative or Senator

Dear [Honorable name ]:

As a voter and concerned constituent, I write to urge you to prevent cuts to federally-funded medical research. Biomedical and health research is not only the path to desperately needed preventative measures, diagnostic tools, treatments, and cures; it is a deficit reduction strategy in its own right. Research is proven to fuel U.S. jobs and business growth, and it holds the key to conquering spiraling health care costs. Strategically, our nation should be increasing funding for biomedical research, not disinvesting from it.

Please take a stand against across-the-board budget cuts known as “sequestration,” and oppose any further reductions in the already stringent caps placed on discretionary spending. Our economy will decline and American priorities will languish if Congress continues down this path.

Thank you for your leadership and for listening to my concerns.

Sincerely,
