Write a “research paper” on the benefits of using High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) to treat COVID-19 instead of using intubation and mechanical ventilation which is correlated with higher rates of death.
I already have an annotated bibliography and an “outline” written that I’ll attach, if you need some guidance or something to work off of. I’ve already submitted those two papers for homework credit so it may be helpful to work off of it somewhat..
The paper needs to have at least 5 peer-reviewed sources, which I’ve already found and used so keep using those at least, but add more if you need to!
The paper also needs to have 4 main points/arguments so I was planning on going with:
1. Mechanical Ventilation is related to high rates of death in COVID-19 patients so it shouldn’t be used first, instead use HFNC first to improve outcomes and reduce death.
2. HFNC is cheaper and easier to use rather than all the medications, staff, and resources needed to use intubation and mechanical ventilation. ICU Doctors are limited in supply and need to be around for very sick and mechanical ventilated patients, so normal hospitalist doctors can manage COVID-19 patients on HFNC that are not in the ICU – better allocating and saving staffing resources.
3. HFNC has been shown to decrease work of breathing in patients and help avoid needing intubations, and HFNC has been shown to improve oxygenation and ventilation in patients
4. Prone Positioning (PP, laying on the stomach) improves gas exchange and eases work of breathing, and when used in combination with HFNC it can help avoid intubations
