Social Work, Briefing Memo, addressing inequality in New Jersey

Identify a policy issue that affects a vulnerable, oppressed, or marginalized minority population at the agency in which you work or are placed. The policy issue should be a recent actual or proposed state, local, or federal law, regulation, or administrative action. The professor will assign a specific policy analysis framework for use in the memo. Use the framework to write a memorandum to the agency’s Executive Director briefing him/her on (1) the essentials of policy such as the social problem that the policy attempts to address (including a discussion of the prevalence, sub-varieties and causation of the problem) as well as a listing of the benefits, service provisions and/or programs included as part of the legislation that may help address the social problem, (2) the interest groups, advocacy groups, professionals and government officials who have participated in shaping the proposed policy, (3) the social and cultural factors that have influenced the development of policy with respect to your social problem (such as how the problem was defined and conceptualized by those dominant interest that shaped the policy), (4) the political processes and key timing issues that are associated with the policy you are discussing, (5) the potential positives and negatives for your agency, and (6) your recommended action(s) to the recipient of the memo based upon the unique needs of vulnerable clients. Be sure to clearly indicate the purpose of the memo in the introduction section of the memo. The memo should be comprehensive and not exceed 6 pages double-spaced in the paragraphs. Please double space between paragraphs. Use 12-point font and standard APA margin, citation and reference list formatting.
