You will engage with theories and concepts from our course readings, supplemented by outside written and other media sources. I encourage you to use this as an opportunity to think through ideas that your Ethnographic Observation has begun to bring up. You may use any or all of this paper in your final Sports Ethnography. You wi‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌ll reference at least two different class readings and one outside scholarly source, and can additionally bring in other media sources (songs, videos, films, sportscasts, websites, etc.). What I am looking for in this paper: 1)A single, central argument that you state in the beginning and follow in a focused way through your entire piece. 2)A coherent, logical, easy-to-follow structure. 3)A clear sense of your own thoughtfully analytical take on the issue at hand. 4)Sophisticated, substantive, and appropriate use of your scholarly sources, put into conversation with your own analytical take. 5)I strongly suggest using direct quotes as little as possible. Instead, when you are engaging with them, try to put other scholars’ thoughts into your own words, while still citing who you got those ideas from. 6)Writing that a general reader can understand. This means doing things like explaining terms and jargon as well as telling the reader why you’re referring to a particular idea, writer, etc. 7)Clear, concise, elegant language. 8)Excellent grammar and spelling. This means using technological tools (grammar check and spell check), but it also means giving yourself time to read and re-read your paper to ensure that it flows proper‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌ly.
