In this project, you will write a three-part paper that focuses on the application and assessment of mediated communication in your life and in the life of one of your peers. The purpose of this assignment is for you to consider and reflect on the role of mediated in your everyday life and relationships and to discover how mediated communication impacts our interpersonal interactions. To do this, you will apply course concepts to relevant personal and interpersonal examples and express your thoughts and ideas using effective written and mediated communication. Through this assignment, you will demonstrate your understanding of the following Course Outcomes: Explain the importance of mediated communication within communication studies during an evolving technological culture. Recognize the consequences of mediated communication in contemporary culture and society, and its impact on human identity management, online presence, interactions and relationships. Engage with peers professionally and effectively utilizing mediated communication for collaboration and task/project completion. Note: This project requires you to connect with one of your classmates through a social-media tool such as Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn. Instructions You are responsible for writing a three-part mediated communication paper (4–6 pages). Through this assignment, you will: Reflect on the role of mediated communication in your everyday life and relationships Identify how mediated communication impacts your peers Apply course concepts to your reflections and observations Part I For Part I of your paper, you will: Reflect on yourself as a communicator and consider your communication behavior using communication technology Describe how you engage in mediated communication when interacting with others in personal and professional contexts Discuss your preferences, norms, and rules for mediated communication Part II In Part II of this project, you will: Partner with another student and connect with him or her on a social-media platform of your choosing, such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, or Snapchat Interact with your partner using the features of the platform Keep in mind that you will need to observe your partner’s social-media activity for enough time to make ample observations and collect substantial “data” so you can draw meaningful conclusions and reflections. Schedule to meet your partner in person or more through a more media-rich interaction, such as a video conferencing tool (., FaceTime, Skype, Google Hangouts). Suggestions for conversation starters include your course experience, life as a student, career goals and aspirations, personal interests, etc. In your paper, you will discuss your observations about your partner’s online and offline presence and how your interactions differed or remained the same across these contexts. Part III For Part III of your paper, you will: Apply at least five (5) course concepts to your reflections and observations. Be sure to consider all of the course materials so far, including the textbook and article readings, PowerPoint lectures, videos, and the discussions. Explain each concept accurately and in clear detail. Carefully describe how the concept relates to your observations and examples (which should also be presented clearly and professionally).
