What kind of certainty is Descartes seeking, and in what sense is it ‘self-sufficient’?

I‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌n Sources of the Self, Charles Taylor writes, “[F]or Descartes, the whole point of the reflexive turn is to achieve a quite self-sufficient certainty.” What does Taylor mean by this? (It will help to define or explain some of the terms Taylor uses: what is ‘the reflexive turn’? What kind of certainty is Descartes seeking, and in what sense is it ‘self-sufficient’?) Why does Tay‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌lor take this to indicate a radical break with how philosophy was practiced prior to the modern era? In general, the quest for certainty (and thus to resolve or answer skeptical worries) seems to be the primary goal of Descartes’ philosophical project. How successful, in your view, is his project in achieving this goal? PLEASE only use Sources of the Self, by Charles Taylor and noth‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌ing else PLEASE
