After reading “The First Day” by Edward P. Jones, answer the following:
What do you remember about your first day of school? What feelings or images come to mind when you recall that memory? How was your experience similar or different from the narrator’s first day of school?
Your response, worth 25 points, must compare and/or contrast with Jones’ “The First Day” in at least 350 words. This short response is meant to teach me how well you write and what you already know about literary analysis.
Since this is a writing diagnostic, there is no rubric. Everyone who responds will receive full credit of 25 points. Blank or incomplete responses will receive a zero for the assignment. Students who do not complete this writing diagnostic will be dropped from the course after the due date.
