Determine what has been done to help the child in school.

Session 2 Parent Interview Assignment Part 1 Session 2 Parent Interview Assignment Part 1
Note: This project is not due until Session 3.
You will have two weeks to set up and conduct your interview, complete your research, and complete your video assignment before it must be submitted. See Session 3 for instructions on how to submit your assignment.
Now that you have observed a classroom with a student exhibiting behavior challenges and interviewed a teacher who has developed strategies to work with students, it is now time to interview a parent of a child with challenging behaviors. Although it is better to select a parent of a student with a serious emotional disability (SED), it is not required. Ideally, it would be best to interview the parents of the student you have selected for your case study, but this is also not required. Your interview may take place over the phone or via video (Skype, for example) if needed. Create interview questions before you conduct your interview covering the following:
Determine what has been done to help the child in school.
Determine what has been done to help the child outside of school.
What are the expectations of the parent? How might the parents’ behavior expectations differ from those of the school and what impact does culture play in these differing expectations?
If the child has an IEP and if there are social-emotional goals listed in the IEP, have any observations or FBA been completed to better understand his/her behavior? If applicable, discuss the FBA that has been conducted for this child.
After completing your interview, create a video presentation reflecting on what you have learned. Please do not use any names or identifying features about students, parents, or teachers in your video presentation. The video should be 4-6 minutes long and should answer the following:
Describe the behaviors of the student you have selected.
Discuss the FBA, if applicable to the child you discussed.
What interventions have been utilized to help the child in the school setting and outside of the school setting?
What are the parents’ expectations?
What impact do you believe the student/family culture play?
You will submit your video presentation to your instructor and also be posting it on a discussion board where your peers will have the option to view it. Please see Session 3 for submission details.
You will have 2 weeks to complete this assignment. It is strongly suggested that you set up your interview now so that you have completed it by the end of this week.
Session 3 Parent Interview Assignment Part 2
In Session 2, you were introduced to the Parent Interview Assignment. By now, you should have interviewed your selected parent(s). Please see Session 2 for more details on how to conduct your interview.
Your interview questions should have led you to collect the following information:
Determine what has been done to help the child in school.
Determine what has been done to help the child outside of school.
What are the expectations of the parent?
If the child has an IEP and if there are behavior issues listed as a goal on the IEP, have any observations or FBA been completed to better understand his/her behavior? Discuss this FBA that has been conducted on this child.
What impact does culture play on student behavior?
After completing your interview, create a video presentation (this can include PowerPoint slides or not, depending on your preference) reflecting on what you have learned.
What impact does culture play on student behavior?
Once you select the means of making your video presentation, use the Technology Quick Guides located on the course Dashboard towards the bottom of the page to assist you with creating your presentation. Plan and practice your presentation before recording. Once your recording is complete, upload the recording into YouTube as directed in the Quick Guide and copy the YouTube link (URL) to use for your assignment submission. You will submit your video presentation to your instructor and will also be posting it on the Session 4 Video Presentation Discussion next session, where your peers will have the option to view it.
